Restaurant No. III (Ritz Classic)

Goan Fish Curry Rice: Resataurant no. III (Ritz Classic)

Ritz Classic, Panjim Goa

Finally, we made it today. This was kept pending for want of some pics.
This is the one which is still No. 1 of mine. Good, decent, Air-conditioned, famous for fresh sea food. These people have another local restaurant by the Municipal Gardens , Panaji named ‘Ritz’. It is there for many years. Same food is comparatively cheaper but always crowded as the sitting area is smaller and the restaurant is like any other small-small restaurants in nature. ‘RITZ Classic’ is about 3/4 years old which is about 5-6 minutes walking distance from each other.

If you like have a look at the type of fish they have on offer, just tell your waiter and he will come back with a tray/basket full of selection of fresh sea food- Fish (see pic). click on the pic to get a bigger view.

One thing we always go in for is the ‘Fish Platter’ which is a selection of all most all type of available fish with them (Squids, Shark, Lady Fish, King Fish, Mussels, Bombay duck, Prawns, modso, crab etc) see pic (Rs.200) it comes with some french fries too. Never order this item if you are just two people (unless you want to take home the left-over portion of the fish platter, which they are happy to pack and give it to you, we do it most of the time). This portion is ideal for 4 people with other dishes.

Other speciality is Goan Fish Curry rice with thick prawns curry, another large fish portion (usually King fish) with the usual other stuff in small-small containers (see pic). Rs.53. Week days lunch time is very busy 1.15 to 2.15pm as many office goers come here for the lunch (fish curry rice).

Pork/Beef in not served here (most Hindu or non-Goan restaurants do not serve these items).

All food items/portions seems very competitive around Rs.80.
Alcoholic drinks seems bit expensive and this is partly because 20% tax and food items 12.5%. I think a bear bottle (750ml) will cost Rs.90 with tax (most other small-small restaurant offer this for around Rs.55 or as cheap as Rs.45).

for pics/location etc pl. see pics here

OK, what we ate and what it cost us today ?

2 Fish curry Rice @Rs.53 each
2 Fresh lime soda @20
1. Fish Platto @.200
Tax 12.5%

Total: Rs.390 for two (40% of the packed Fish Plato was taken home)

Restaurant No: II (Joseph Sea Food, Colva)

Goan Fish/Meat Curry Rice -- Joseph's Sea food (Colva)

Hi,

It's me again.

This restaurant may not be posh with interior decorations etc
(It has PVC/plastic Chairs etc)

But I tell you, the sea food they serve is too good.
I have been there 4 times (through recommendations).

What I like the most ?
The Fish Lepo (Sole or Tongue fish), Sungttam (prawns), Tisrio etc.
The service (so quick that I have never been served so fast anywhere before)
The price (unbelievable!!)

What we ate and what it cost us ?

We were 4 adults

1 bot Royal Stag (Rs.200)
11 Soda bottles (Rs.90 ?)
1 Bot mineral water

6 plates Lepo (Sole Fish with plain fry, rawa fry-see pic and masala fry)
3 plates Moddso Fry (2 pcs/plate)
1 Plate Tisrio (wtih thick gravy)
1 plate salad special
1 plate large prawns (15 pcs) Rs.100 (elsewhere, Rs.80 with 6-8 pcs)
3 plates Fish curry rice Rs.90 (with fish, salad, Veg, Tisrio, pickle)

Total bill was Rs.725 for 4

Sorry, I forgot to take the pics while eating but we somehow managed to take one of Lepo which we ordered in the end. (click on pic for larger view)

The restaurant is usually busy all the times, people keep coming even after 3pm.
Most items are priced Rs.60 or below except the prawns Rs.100 with double the qty.

They also serve Chicken biryani, Chinese etc

And off course, all types of fresh fish.

I like the 'Tisrio' so much that I did not waste my left-over thick grevy, i asked for little qty plain rice and finished it all.

As for the whisky bottle, last time, a newly opened restaurant at Utorda opp. Pandu Posro 'Sinatras' charged us Rs.450 for the same whisky bottle.

===========================================================
I did not strike a deal with the restaurant owner this time to give you 5% off by mentioning JoeGoaUk as all the items seems served already discounted.
===========================================================

But you may mention you heard it on the Internet.

And don't forget to write to me if you happen to visit there or any featured restaurant in this series.

Next: Hopefully Ritz classic (Which is kept pending for want of pics)
(IMP: Never believe in these posts the information that comes in between the dotted or double line)

Goan Fish Curry Rice - I (CORINA)

Goan Fish/Meat Curry Rice: - CORINA -

JoeGoaUk has decided to come up with his new feature: Mouth-watering Goan best Fish/Meat Curry Rice Restaurants. He and his small team (of 2 or 3) will visit any where in Goa to try and taste what Goan authentic food on offer there.. Please suggest if you have any restaurant or eating house in your mind so that we can go there and see ourselves.
It may not be posh or star restaurant. It can be even a house and it can be even a year old.
It may serve only fish or meat or both. What is mainly interested is the typical Goan
(click on pic for larger view)
food, freshness (like fresh fish), natural surroundings, service, taste and the price.
Average price per item/portion should be less than Rs.100. Only those restaurants which meet the above basic requirements will be featured here. All visit to restaurant will be unannounced. Any suggestions welcome.

OK, to start with, here is about 45 years old Restaurant named 'CORINA' I first heard about it about 15 years ago.
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=378649407&size=o

Located near old PWD or at the foot of new Patto Bridge or opp. General Post Office (GPO), Panjim.
Good enviroment, good service (even protuguese language spoken by counter person), good taste and affordable prices.

I was alone today and the visit to CORINA was purely accidental, as I arrived at one office just after Ipm when it was closed for lunch and open after 2pm, so I visited this neaby bar & restaurant.

What I ate and what it cost me ?
1 plate Sausages (10 in a plate)
1.5 peg Old Monk Rum with Coke (this not my usual drinks)
1 Rechardo bangllo (which remided me of my Mom)
1 Plate fish crochets (very tiny but tasty)
1 Prawn curry rice (with 3 large prawns in thick curry)
1 Large Visnna Post (King fish)
All this fro Rs.290 (inclusive of taxes/Charges)

I also wanted to try Beef Steak, Pork Chops, Asad, Vindaloo etc but there was no room in my stomach..

At the counter, there is a small stand/shelves displaying packed sausages, Bombil Para and other pickels for sale. See PIC 2 & 3

The restaurant also reminded me of another restaurant viz AVANTI don't know if it is still exists (it was on the main raod Rue de Ourem, near hotel Sona, Confident-Herald)

If you do visit this restaurant 'CORINA', pl say you heard about it on the net. Do also write back to me if found good or bad.
